Where can i get a dining table and chairs set from, i've tried homebase and argos but wasn't that happy with the stuff in argos, seen a nice one in homebase but not sure where else i could look???? x I live in sheffield UK, not one too expensive about £250 at the most but must have 6 chairs

What are the uses of many spoons and forks on the dining tables in hotels? I feel that spoons, forks and knives are too much in dining tables in hotels. Ok, one can be for salad, one for the main course and one for desserts. But still the number seems to be more than we need. And also, Is there a special spoon for soups?

Is it too late to train a 4 year old cat to stop jumping on counter tops and dining room tables? I recently adopted an extremely loveable 4 year old cat named Bugsy. He's so sweet. However, every chance he gets, he jumps on the dining room table and kitchen counter tops. I just don't think it's sanitary. His feet and his fanny goes in and out of a litter box where he does his business. Catch my drift? I've tried contact sticky paper, squirtting him with water, nothings working. Am I in over my head?

What is your opinion of having a counter-height dining table? I'm searching for a dining furniture set for my home which would include the table, chairs, and some sort of buffet or hutch. I've seen a few sets where the table is counter height and the chairs are actually "bar stools." Does anyone have experience using these higher dining tables and chairs? Can dining tables/chairs also have bedbugs? I was exploring used furniture on Craigslist and was notified by my friends about bedbugs. Having gone through them when in school I don't want to take even 1% risk. But I live in a city not close to any school/university and there's no student community here and I plan to buy stuff only from good (read "rich") houses ( though this doesn't qualify for being bug-free ) So now I want to know if dining tables/chairs/coffee tables/end tables/dressers (all wooden) too can be inhabited by these bugs just as mattresses and couches? Say I have a wooden dining table that I love but I hate having to use table pads and a table cloth just to have an informal meal because I don't want spills and condensation to ruin the finish on my table. How to protect the finish on a dining table? I bought a dining table set from Cost Plus World Market 1 year ago. It's not the most high quality furniture. The wood is stained very dark/almost black. I've noticed that when cleaning the table with a damp cloth/paper, the color rubs onto the cloth, etc. Is there some kind of product I can buy at the hardware store to protect the top of the table, perhaps some kind of do it yourself sealer or something. How do you clean a finished wood dining table? I have a finished wood dining table. It is a light color wood and I think it is maple. The thing is that with three kids (and no table cloth because it got torn a while back and was never replaced) I do have some sticky spots on the table. My family does use place mats at every meal and we do wipe up spills quickly. But these sticky spots are more towards the center of the table. I've tried wiping them down with a wet cloth to no avail and I don't want the wood to warp. Any ideas?

How many watts of lighting do I need over a dining table? I foolishly bought a pendant lamp with only a 100 watt halogen light bulb for my dining area. Now that I've decided to replace it with a bigger chandalier, how many watts of light should I be looking at? I do have a Lutron dimmer, so it'll be adjustable. Is total wattage even what I should be looking at? Is there some other measurement to consider? Because my dining room has a sloping roof, I can really only do a single chandalier or pendant lamp. A single pendant lamp will never be bright enough -- so that's out. Most chandaliers tend to have lamp shades that focus upwards, whereas I know lighting for a dining table should mostly focus downwards -- to draw people into the dining area. What are my options? For what it's worth, I very much want a modern, contemporary design.

Would it work if I put a ping pong table top converter meant for a pool table on a large dining room table? How to even out streaked finish on dining table? I have an Ethan Allen dining table with a streaked finish that I would like to buff out. The finish has highs and lows and is very streaked. I found out that it has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. I don't want to do anything to change the color stain, I just need the sheen to be even. How can I repair my broken dining table? I am in the process of moving and my grandmother's dining table did not fare well in the move (a dresser fell on it...). I will try to describe this as best as I can. The table top is fine, no damage done. The legs themselves are not split. But there were pieces of long wood attached to the underside of the table top they linked the legs to the top. They split (some badly). Is there a way to repair split wood reliably? Or is there a way I can attach the table legs to the table top directly without worrying about damage? I realize I could get a cheap new table, but this was my deceased grandmother's table and I spent a lot of time fixing it up before the mishap, so I'd really prefer to just save it. Thanks!
