Contemporary Kitchen:Furniture and wall color for open kitchen/family room? I have an open space family/kitchen combo (no half wall separating the family/kitchen. 1) My first question is, what can you suggest for wall color, and should I use one color for both rooms? Also, if I want to use 2 different colors, should I build a half wall between the family room and kitchen to create a division or that would still be considered 1 room? The other thing is the flooring. My family room flooring is carpet and kitchen is vinyl but both are taupe color. Given this should I separate the 2 rooms and should I then build a half wall between 2 rooms to create 2 different spaces. what colors then you would recommend for these. I have attached an image. 2) My kitchen cabinets are orangee oak and the countertop has flecks of black, taupe and orange. But you cannot really notice the orange flecks. My appliances are black/stainless steel combo. I have silver finish on my accent lights and chandelier lights on my kitchen nook which looks more contemporary. My family room has khaki/green colors on the sofa and the entertainment center/bookcases and accent table are orangee as well (same color as kitchen cabinets). This leads to my second question, if I want to change the color of my furniture in my family room into dark walnut by staining my existing furniture, would the entire space still be unified since kitchen cabinets and breakfast nook dining table/chairs are lighter and orangee? . Do I still have to keep them unified if I paint 2 different colors in the 2 rooms? The third question is, I am not sure if I have traditional kitchen and a comtemporary family room. Can you mix both if they are an open space or it would only be okay to do this if I create a half wall between 2 rooms. I'm thinking of going contemporary on my family room with the furniture pieces since my existing sofa and the 1 1/2 chair I have are reclining and have a geometric pattern. so I would think they are more contemporary than traditional. Hopefuly, I didn't confuse you or overwhelm you with my questions.

I have an open living room/dining and kitchen. the lr is painted a soft beige color and i need help with the kitchen/dining room. i have a contemporary/modern design kitchen with black cabinets, mosaic tile with light green, lavender and dark green colors. my countertops are granite-black/gray color. i have all stainless steel appliances and in the dining room there is a teak table with teak chairs. i'm thinking about a light, soft color such as light blues, greens or creams but i can't make up my mind. i plan to choose a flat color from benjamin moore. any suggestions on paint options will be helpful. thanks.
Need Opinion (Home Decor)!!!!!!!!? I stumbled across a room divider on Target's website and was wondering about it. I have a really, really modern/contemporary decorated apartment (Stone/glass tables, stainless steel appliances, lime green leather sofa/chairs, white entertainment system, white dining room chairs/glass dining room table funky shaped) and was wondering if it would look good to have them separating my living room dining room which kind of are... just there. http://www.target.com/3-Panel-Room-Divider-Black/dp/B000JPMKXG/ref=sc_ri_1?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=0HJRREDSHWC9KS57RVT4&pf_rd_p=481695491&pf_rd_i=B000JPIOS6&pf_rd_s=bottom-11&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201
Will you help me design my new house? Everything has to be contemporary/modern and brown or blue. For the living room, I need a chaise, two chairs, coffee table, and two end tables. For the dining room, I need a dining table, eight chairs, curio, buffet, and chandelier. For the kitchen, everthing has to be stainless steel and I need a two-door refrigerator, two double wall ovens (gas), rangetop (gas), island ventilation hood, and dishwasher. For the family room, I need a large sectional, coffee table, two end tables, and LCD TV. I do not have a price limit. Your work will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Would you pay $900 for this set? Do you like it? Would you pay $900 for this dining room set? http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.... (scroll down to see the furniture). I am supposed to be buying this dining room set from a lady on Craigslist. I went to look at it yesterday and really like the style of the furniture. It's a 15-year old set and it's a Drexel Heritage collection. There are eight chairs (2 arm and 6 side), a buffet and china cabinet with hutch. The table also has two leafs. Overall, it is in good condition. There is a scratch on the left side of the table (on the top) that will need to be buffed out and repaired, but it's not too bad. The chair cushions are like cordouroy or something so I am going to buy some fabric that I like and recover them. Other than a couple of minor knicks (normal wear and tear) on the buffet everything looks good. Do you think this is worth $900? I know you can't get quality furniture anywhere for that price, but I want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I need other opinions. In my living room I have chocolate brown leather with claw feet and hands (the wood is mahogany). The end tables and coffee tables are also a mahogany with marble tops. I like Victorian style furniture. Is this furniture too old-fashioned for a 31 year old. I like stylish furniture but I like an antique/old look. I am not into contemporary.

What color ceramic tile floor with Cherry cabinets and Emerald Pearl granite? We are remodelling the kitchen with dark cherry cabinets (not quite espresso, but darker than traditional cherry stain) and we FINALLY settled on the Emerald Pearl granite for the counters and island. The appliances are stainless with touches of black. I need to find a tile that will go with the new kitchen while blending in with the rest of the house, as it is going on the floor in all of the living areas (they are open to each other.) Living room furniture major pieces are an oxblood red leather couch (contemporary/transitional style) and an espresso stained coffee table with espresso leather ottomans and a contemporary neutral floral-ish overstuffed chair. My plan is to have a pale palomino color on the living room walls, and a pale-to-mid tone blue-green in the kitchen/dining to enhance the granite and contrast slightly with the cabinets; but paint colors are flexible...I like the color variation of slate, but I want ceramic tile for its durability. Is slate too dark? this is the color of the granite http://www.granitestock.com/eis-cgi-bin/8180/gran?color=Emerald%20Pearl&templ=granite_csearch_color.html
What colors would you use in a living room with white walls, gray carpets, and a black table? I just moved into a new apartment, and am in the process of getting furniture and decorating it. The apartment has white walls, huge windows, high ceilings (think schoolhouse ceilings and windows, as it used to be a schoolhouse). It also has gray carpets. I always imagined having warm earth tone colors in my living room - so that I could have a warm, welcoming environment. So, having gray carpets posed a challenge for me, as I've never dealt with cool color tones before. I decided to get this black glass square table for the dining room, which is essentially part of the living room. It looks very sleek and contemporary. Here's a picture of it (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80131733). Note that the glass top is solid black. The white that's shown on the glass in the picture is just a reflection. I'd like to incorporate that black into the room - perhaps creating a contemporary, yet classic and welcoming atmosphere? I don't want it to be too contemporary, and I don't want the black to be overpowering, but I would like it all to tie together. Anyways, to sum this up, any suggestions for colors of furniture (couch, chair, accent tables) or decorations (wall hangings, art, frames, etc) would be much appreciated. Keep in mind that I can't paint the walls, and I can't change the color of the carpet. Thanks in advance!
