I need advice on how to re-upholster the fabric on the seats for 6 dining chairs.? I have a varnished wooden dining table with six matching chairs. The chairs each have an electric blue faux suede fabric as the seat. The fabric is stapled onto the cushioned seat and then screwed into the chair. I wish to change them to either a grape or deep red colour to match my decor. How would I do this and where would I locate the right hard-wearing material to re-upholster?
free patterns for dining chairs slipcovers? where can i find free patterns for dining chairs slipcovers. I don't live in the us and have to make do with local supplies. am not planning to import them neither books nor videos.
how do i stop my dog chewing the dining chairs? I have taken my dog to training classes and generally his behaviour is good. when i go to bed or go out i shut him in the kitchen with a box full of toys. lately he has started chewing the dining chairs, only a bit but every day. I think i will get covers for them but he'll probably chew the table then. Any suggestions?!
Plastic wrap on seats of new dining chairs? I recently bought a new dining set, the table and chairs are all wood. Each chair's cloth seat portion itself is completely sealed with a thin, transparent plastic wrap. Am I supposed to rip that plastic wrap off? Is this like the pins in men's dress shirts, i.e. something to make the product present well but you then have to waste a bunch of time removing it before you can actually use it? Thanks, Bachelor with no clue. Thanks for the prompt and helpful answers. OK so I lied. I've had the chairs for 7 yrs now and still have the plastic on, and yes they're beginning to rip in spite of incredible gentle use. I'll go rip them off now. :)
cleaning upholstered dining chairs? I have 4 cream colored parsons style dining chairs that have been in storage for a while, and desparately need cleaning. They have some really dirty spots, and need an overall cleaning as well. Is this something i should attempt myself, or should i get them professionally cleaned? They are a jacquard patterned heavy fabric.
Swivel or dining-style chairs for patio furniture? Which do you prefer? This would be for a dining set in cast aluminum that looks like wrought iron and would be used on a wooden deck (not a patio). I like the look of dining chairs (i.e., with legs) because I prefer a traditional style with my old house, but I'm wondering if swivel chairs would be more comfortable and practical on a deck (no legs to get caught in the cracks). Opinions? One more thing -- swivel chairs cost about twice as much as dining chairs.
Would memory foam be a good choice for dining room chairs? I am re-doing my dining room chairs and would like to know if 5lb. density 2.5 in. memory foam would be a good choice or should I just go with medium firm 2.5 in. regular foam. I am going to wrap the foam in batting before I put the fabric on the chairs. Also would 2.5 inches be thick enouph or should I do 3 inches? Please give details as to which foam would be better and why.
How does one refinish (stain) old wood dining room chairs? I have 40 year old dining room chairs that were finished in a antique greenish white (UGLY). I want to restain them in a natural looking wood finish. Do I need to strip the old finish? Do I need to apply a base? HELP!!!!! Thanks much.
Anyone know the best way to hang regular dining room chairs from the wall? Our babies are old enough to move our chairs around and climb on top of the table, the kitchen counter, you name it. We were just laying them down after using them but now they are strong enough to lift them back up. We'd like to hang them from our dining walls (high up) like they used to many years ago. Thanks! Thank you for your answers so far. We bought some heavy duty chair hangers from the hardware store. But I appreciate everyone's sincere help. For those of you who are parents, you know that while you're attempting to cook supper, vacuum the floor, or just walk across the room to answer the front door, if you have more than one toddler to watch you have to child-proof EVERYTHING. We feel MUCH safer with our chairs out of the way and in the last couple days we've already gotten used to putting them up on the wall when not in use. We were having all sorts of accidents up until now and mommy and daddy were ready to convert to folding chairs that we could throw into the closet. Heehee! :) Thanks again! Here's a picture of part of the chairs: Oops, you'll have to take the %22 off the end of that link when it opens up. Sorry. Also, it was about $12 to hang all four solid-maple chairs. I was SHOCKED! Thanks again!
When recovering seats on dining room chairs what direction should the pattern go? I'm recovering my upholstered dining room chairs' seats. The old seats were covered in a solid color. The new fabric I bought has a floral, tapestry type pattern with a definite top and bottom. Should the top of the pattern go at the back (where your back goes) or the front (where your legs go) of the seat? The backs are not upholstered. Thanks!!
I have dining room chairs that have a resin like wood. any tips on how to strip and re-stain it? I have dining room chairs that have a resin like wood. any tips on how to strip and re-stain it? we got this dining room set and realized after we got it home that there was this resin like wood on the back of the chairs and on the columns of the table. We did notice that it is easy to strip off, but we are not sure on how to re-stain it. We did try to re-stain on a spot that is hard to see, but the stain seems to wipe off when it is dried.
How to clean microfiber couch & dining chairs? I've tried just a damp cloth, but I still can't get dog drool/dirt out. Resolve doesn't work either, at least on the chairs! I don't have the money for a machine or to get it professionally done.

How can I cover 1970's Herman Miller fiberglass dining chairs without painting them? I'm a college student living in an apartment that came with a set of the aforementiond chairs. The problem with them is that they are HIDEOUSLY yellow. My landlord says that we aren't allowed to paint them because they are fiberglass and they will chip away quickly and look even worse than they do now (if that's even possible). Anything we do to the chairs must be reversible. Is there any kind of special fabric we could put on them, or does anyone have any other ideas? They are also sort of oddly shaped. Here is a link to a chair that looks similar to mine: http://www.oaktreeent.com/web_photos/deco/Herman_Miller_Yellow_Fiberglass_Stacking_Chair_web.jpg except for that the ones in my apartment are WAY more yellow. Help! I WILL award points to the best answer, so please try to provide serious and helpful solutions.

Covering for seat cushions of dining chairs? I would like to know if anyone knows of a good web site with instructions and pictures of how to cover a chair cushion with your owne fabric. I tried looking and havent found what i need. see this is for my mom because shes not listening to my instructions since i know how to do this task. she cut her own cloth with out a ruler, didnt measure what she needed to cut and is using small screws to attach the fabric and the back of a screwdriver to tap them in. i told her she needed a staple gun but shes ignorant and wont listen and i even tried to show her but she doesnt care. The fabric is all bunched up in the corners and looks like its gonna fall off. i need to show her easy instructions with pictures so then maybe she would listen to that inteasd of not listening to me.

Looking for childproof fabric for re-upholstery of dining room chairs...? Hello! We're trying to re-upholster our dining chairs. They are a white color (of course you can't even tell the original color by looking at them anymore :P)... We were thinking to use a fabric that will be childproof this time around. Are there any suggestions? We're looking for something that will keep its color and won't absorb anything that is spilled or anything like that. Something that will keep 2 and 1 year old kids from ruining them again. Please help! :)
