Black Dining Tables

I want to paint my formal dining room set black. Any tips? I can't afford to screw it up.?

My style has changed since I bought this china cabinet, table and chairs but they are in great condition. Not cheap furniture and I am alittle scared that I could really screw this up. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I will have to reupholster the chairs so any tips on that would be helpful too. I think i will use an oil based paint...but what about a primer or a sealer?

  1. sand, or degloss the existing finish. prime with a bonding/stain blocking primer, tinted to deep gray, then apply 2 to 3 coats of paint. spraying it would give the best finish, but if you must brush and or roll, add penetrol to oil based paint or floetrol to latex, to provide a self leveling component( to reduce brush marks). honestly, i would get pricing from a local industrial painter who could spray it all. you would get the best finish that way, and it would be no work for you.
  2. your first answer is right on the money but use american tradition`shiny surfaces primer` from lowes and it will stay forever paining it the way #1 said.GOOD LUCK
