I want to paint my formal dining room set black. Any tips? I can't afford to screw it up.?
My style has changed since I bought this china cabinet, table and chairs but they are in great condition. Not cheap furniture and I am alittle scared that I could really screw this up. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I will have to reupholster the chairs so any tips on that would be helpful too. I think i will use an oil based paint...but what about a primer or a sealer?

- sand, or degloss the existing finish. prime with a bonding/stain blocking primer, tinted to deep gray, then apply 2 to 3 coats of paint. spraying it would give the best finish, but if you must brush and or roll, add penetrol to oil based paint or floetrol to latex, to provide a self leveling component( to reduce brush marks). honestly, i would get pricing from a local industrial painter who could spray it all. you would get the best finish that way, and it would be no work for you.
- your first answer is right on the money but use american tradition`shiny surfaces primer` from lowes and it will stay forever paining it the way #1 said.GOOD LUCK
