Black Dining Tables

Decorating a dining room?

I want to decorate my dining, which is about 225 sq ft. The walls are white, it has a huge china cabinet, and it has like this black tower lamps in the corner, and a dining table which seats 6 people. Any suggestions? please? Style? how about classical and clean

  1. Go to HGTV.com and look around for dining rooms. There are lots of neat decorating tips there and on the television shows too.
  2. you didn't mention a style - modern, traditional etc? If you are into photos black pic frames w/white mats & b&w photos would be a nice way to cover the walls. I always get good ideas from Pottery Barn http://www.potterybarn.com/content/shop/srdr1/index.cfm
  3. It's not a big room, so I'll bet the table and chairs and china cabinet take up most of the space. I'd get rid of the black tower lamps as often the upward illumination appears cold. In their place you could put a hanging light fixture centered over the table. If you don't have a junction box there, you can swag it from the wall or corner where there is a duplex outlet. If there's enough room, try putting two of the dining chairs along another wall or near a corner with a table in between, and a lamp on the table and a short vase with flowers. When you need the two chairs, just pull them up. Or you could leave the six chairs around the table, and put a cart or table that can be used as a bar or it could hold desert with a vase of flowers. Paint the walls a saturated color. It doesn't have to be red! Pick your favorite color, and use a darker hue of it. If there is a window, I'd use sheer curtain panels with or without a pattern.
